Things to do in Sydney
North Narrabeen Beach is a very nice place to visit with plenty to do.
The surf beach can be accessed from the council car park off the corner of Ocean Street & Malcom Street. Normal parking rates are $5 per hour or $8 for all day during the week & $25 for all day parking over the weekends (unless you have a Warringah or Pittwater Council parking sticker). Otherwise park your vehicle on a side street.
The beach is nice & usually has a good surfing break. A large surf clubhouse with shower & toilet facilities is just behind the sand dunes. There is also a couple of cafes nearby to buy food.
At the Southern end of the bridge on Ocean Street is another council car park with access to the Westerly side of North Narrabeen Beach. The lagoon waters here are protected from any swell & this area is popular for families with young children that are learning to swim.
On the Northern end of the bridge there is another car park. The area is currently undergoing some improvement works with new turf, shade areas & bbq’s for picnickers. Use this car park to access the ocean swimming pool & headland walk. The walk out to the pool from the car park is a flat road going along the edge of the lagoon / ocean entrance. Pittwater Council vehicle parking fee is $8.00 for the first four hour and $1.40 for every after that with a maximum day rate of $36.00. Fishermen frequent the area alongside the lagoon ocean entrance trying their luck.
Warringah & Pittwater Councils have a reciprocal arrangement that allows for vehicles displaying either parking sticker to park their vehicle at the car park at North Narrabeen Rock pool and North Narrabeen Beach car parking areas.
On the way out to the pool you will see the steps leading up to headland lookouts. The wooden staircase structure takes you up to the top then a short trail walk to the lookouts. The view from the lookouts is definitely worth the effort. One looks South over North Narrabeen Beach & the other North over Turimetta Beach. There are a few spots that would be really nice for a picnic. Bring your camera.
Also near the Northern end of the bridge is the start of a walking track that leads along the Western side of Narrabeen Lagoon past Sydney Lakeside Caravan Park to the other lagoon bridge at Narrabeen. From here cross the road (carefully) & you will now be on the Eastern side of the lagoon. You can continue to walk the track all the way to Jamieson Park around the flat track. If you have a pushbike or like a long walk this track is excellent on a nice day. Picnickers would be very happy at many points along the trail. There is a children’s playground area in Lakeside Park & Wheeler Park.
