Things To Do In Sydney

Long Reef is a great place for a walk, trip to the beach, fishing & picnics.

Long Reef consist of several main areas:

  • The Headland
  • The Headland Reef (ocean skirt)
  • Dee Why Lagoon Wildllife Refuge
  • Long Reef Beach
  • Fishermans Beach

To access the headland turn off Pittwater Road onto Anzac Avenue then take the last right. You can drive up the road to the top car park & take the fairly easy walk from there to the headland. If you want a bigger walk (avoid car parking fees) leave your vehicle on Anzac Avenue or one of the side streets. Starting the walk along Fisherman’s Beach is nice. If the tide is low you can go around the ocean edge & take the path at the Eastern end up to the headland lookout. You can also take the track from Long Reef surf beach up to the headland lookout. The view is awesome South over Dee Why & North to Palm Beach. Look out for whales.

The main car park can be busy with fishermen launching their trailer boats from the ramp into the protected waters. Also lots of boats are stored along Fisherman’s Beach in the protected Eastern corner. Some rusty remnant boat winches remain from an earlier era. There is a grassy area in this corner is protected from Southerly wind & a good spot for a picnic.

The Long Reef golf course makes up the bulk of the headland with the club nestled in next to Fisherman’s Beach. Griffith Park is a very large area between Pittwater Road & Long Reef golf course & is a popular to exercise your dog without a leash. Collaroy Tennis Club has six courts with a car park next to it. A children’s playground is next to the tennis courts.

To access Long Reef surf beach turn left into the car park while traveling South along Pittwater Road or park on the street. It can be very busy during summer.

Nearly all of Long Reef is part of the three protected areas:

Normal Warringah Council car parking fees apply $5 per hour or $8 for all day during the week & $25 for all day parking over the weekends (unless you have a council parking sticker).
