West Head is spectacular with many bush walking trails, natural beaches, Aboriginal rock art & Creeks. From the West Head lookout you can see directly across the Pittwater to Barrenjoey Headland, Lion Island & Box Head.

Almost as soon as you turn off McCarrs Creek Road onto West Head Road there is vehicle parking for picnic area. Take a short walk to see tranquil McCarrs Creek & relax next to the fresh water rock pool. See an eel swim past or a yabee peek out from below a rock.

Vehicle entry is $11 per day unless you have an annual National Parks vehicle pass. The gates to West Head are open from 6am to 8.30pm during daylight savings periods & 6am to 6pm at other times of the year.

There are three easily explored Aboriginal art engraving sites that are worth a look. They are all signposted:

There are many walks from West Head Road to various beaches such as Flint & Steel, Resolute, Makerel, Towlers Bay & The Basin. Most trails are steep & hard going in places.

You can also catch a ferry from Palm Beach to the Basin for a day picnic trip or to camp overnight. If you arrive by water a landing fee of $3 adults, $2 children applies. Campers pay this fee in their campsite booking.
